Medical Sports Evaluation

Why is it important to undergo medical sports evaluation?

  1. Medical evaluation prior to the practice of any sport is fundamental because it determines whether a person is or not fit to practice sports of physical exercise
  2. It identifies symptoms of disease or risk factors.
  3. It determines the person’s general health condition.
  4. It determines the level of physical condition, aerobic capacity, corporal composition, strength and muscular resistance, etc.

Who should undergo medical sports evaluation and why?

  1. All those healthy people or those with some medical condition who should be clinically supervised.
  2. Those who wish to start physical activity.
  3. Those who already do physical activity regularly and wish to improve their performance.
  4. Sportspeople who are getting ready to compete or those who are already competing and wish to carry out some changes to their training plans in accordance with their level of intensity or complexity.
  5. Children prior to their integration into physical activity – it is extremely important as children are not miniature adults but physiologically immature beings who may suffer from growth problems and belated maturity if their training is too intense or their diet is inadequate.
  6. There has been a decrease in death rate and an increase in longevity of elderly adults who keep themselves physically active their whole lives. With the right evaluation they can improve the way they do physical activity in keeping with their age, with less risk of injury and greater efficiency.
  7. Women who wish to break their sedentary habit, lose those extra pounds, increase their muscle tone, their energy and prevent osteoporosis.

What exactly is a medical sports evaluation?

  1. In the first visit, the patient’s medical history is checked and his or her objectives are determined. This will allow for the development of a personalized and effective action plan besides eliminating risks associated with a non-supervised training program (cardiovascular risk, fatigue, over-training, muscle injuries, etc).
  2. Lab tests are carried out, together with a physical and nutritional exam.
  3. Cineantropometric evaluation.
  4. Aerobic evaluation including measurements of lactic acid, determination of ventilatory anaerobic threshold with mask. Field test with GPS, etc.
  5. Evaluation of speed of photoelectric cells.
  6. Evaluation of strength and muscular resistance.
  7. Evaluation of flexibility.

Is a medical sports evaluation expensive?
No, its cost is only slightly higher than that of a medical consultation.
